Wind Blade Recycling: Turning Environmental Pressure into Economic Power
With the EU 2024 Waste Framework Directive coming into effect, wind turbine blades are banned from landfill. The client faces the pressure of processing 600 tons of blades annually, with traditional landfill costs as high as €180/ton. A green processing solution is urgently needed.
1. Pain Points: When 'Green Energy' Becomes a 'Grey Burden'
Before contacting us, the client was plagued by the following three major problems:
1. Strict Policy Regulations
The 2024 Dutch Waste Framework Act officially took effect, completely banning wind blade landfills. Illegal disposal faces lawsuits and fines up to €250,000.
2. Skyrocketing Disposal Costs
Due to lack of compliant channels, professional disposal quotes soared to €180/ton. For a company generating 600 tons/year (including 15m long, 8-ton blades), this is an unbearable cost.
3. Extremely Difficult Material
GFRP combines high strength and toughness. Traditional crushers easily jam or break, and cutting causes severe dust pollution, failing strict local environmental assessments.
2. Visual Proof: From Giants to Powder
3. Project Story: Conquering EU Standards
European clients have extremely strict requirements for dust emissions and equipment safety.
Certification Barrier
Equipment must pass CE certification and KEMA electrical safety tests. We completed the EU standard upgrade of the entire electrical system in just 25 days.
Process Innovation: Three-Stage Crushing
Targeting the 'large, hard, and tough' characteristics, we designed a 'Rough-Medium-Fine' three-stage process:
Rough Crushing: Reducing 15m blades to ≤60cm blocks;
Medium Crushing: Further breaking down to ≤15cm;
Fine Grinding: Controlling output size to 1-5mm for construction use.
Economic Calculation
Cost Reduction: Processing cost reduced from €180/ton to €70/ton.
New Revenue: Recycled powder sold as fuel/raw material for cement kiln co-processing at €240/ton.
4. Connected Equipment
Core Line: GFRP Wind Blade Recycling Line
Downstream Application: Cement additives, recycled WPC boards, construction concrete
